Key Changes to Industrial Design Renewals at the EUIPO from May 1st, 2025

Starting May 1st, 2025, the EUIPO is updating the rules for European design renewals, impacting deadlines and official fees. Proactive planning is essential to optimize your protection strategy.

Main Updates

 

✅ New Expiry Date Calculation

   •           Exact expiry date: Designs will now expire on their precise registration date, not at the end of the month.

   •           Grace period: Still six months, but now starting immediately after the expiry date.

 

✅ Increase in Renewal Fees

   •           Official fees will rise for the first four renewal periods.

 

Benefit from Current Fees Until April 30th, 2025

 

💡 Act now: Designs expiring before September 30, 2025, can still be renewed at current rates if paid by April 30th, 2025 – an opportunity to reduce costs.
