On 27 May 2025, the Republic of Mauritius adhered to the Harare Protocol on Patents and Designs administrated by the African Regional Intellectual Property Organisation (ARIPO) and will become the 21st contracting state.

This membership will enter into force on 27 August 2025 and will allow applicants to protect their inventions in Mauritius through a single and centralised filing with the ARIPO Office without filing single national patent application.
