Romania ratifies the Unified Patent Court Agreement
[26/06/2024]
On May 31, 2024, Romania deposited its instrument of ratification of the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA), becoming the 18th contracting member state to join the European Patent with Unitary Effect (UP) system, as of September 1, 2024.
From this date, a new UP will extend its effects to Romania, in addition to Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden.
Please note that for European patents granted before this date, transitional measures allow, on request, to benefit from a postponement of the registration of the unitary effect in order to obtain a UP covering Romania.
