D-Day for the entry into force of the Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court!

[01/06/2023]

10 years after it was signed, the UPC Agreement is finally coming into force in the 17 participating Member States of the European Union, establishing the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the Unitary Patent (UP). The 1st June 2023 thus marks a major turning point in the intellectual property area in Europe.

The unitary patent system allows, on the one hand, to get patent protection in the 17 Member States with a single title and, on the other hand, to bring patent litigations (validity and/or infringement) before a single supranational court instead of different national courts.

To help you in your choices, do not hesitate to use our European patent / Unitary patent cost comparator.

The UP and UPC system opens up new possibilities and implies that choices must be made for European patents. GERMAIN MAUREAU is of course available to help the Applicant in reviewing their portfolio in order to better define the strategy with regards to the new Unitary Patent / Unified Patent Court system.
