Malaysia’s accession to the Madrid Agreement concerning the International Registration of Marks
On 27 September 2019, Malaysia joined the Madrid Protocol and became thus the 106th member of the System for the International Registration of Marks which now covers 122 countries.
This accession, which will enter into force on 27 December 2019, will allow to designate this country in an international trademark registration, via a single filing or a subsequent designation, with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
With this simplified filing process, holders of international trademarks will be able to protect their rights in an easier and more cost-effective manner in Malaysia.
