2019 Status Reports on IP Infringement

According to the 2019 report from the EUIPO and the OECD, that has just been published, the weight of counterfeiting and piracy is more and more important.

Indeed, Intellectual Property Right infringement amounts to:

• about 3.3 % of wolrd trade in 2016,e. USD 509 billion,
• 8 % of imports into the EU, i.e. EUR 121 billion per year compared to around EUR 92 billion per year for the 2012-2016 period.

The rise of the Internet and e-commerce plays a key role in this development by facilitating the distribution of counterfeit products and the dissemination of illegal content.
